Chelsea in transfer tussle to sign Julian Alvarez

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly interested in signing Manchester City striker Julian Alvarez in the summer transfer window.

According to reputed Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are interested in Julian Alvarez. The Argentine international wants more game time from Manchester City in the 2024/25 season. However, the Premier League champions do not want to part ways with the striker in the summer transfer window.

The rise of Julian Alvarez

Julian Alvarez has come leaps and bounds since joining Manchester City from River Plate in 2022. The Premier League champions secured his services in January before loaning him back to River Plate for the first half of 2022. And the 24-year-old has grabbed his opportunities with both hands in the last two seasons.

Meanwhile, Alvarez was a part of the squad that won the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar. As for the Argentine international’s exploits at the club level, he enjoyed an exceptional 2023/24 campaign, amassing 19 goals and 13 assists in 54 appearances across all competitions.

However, despite growing in stature in his two years at Manchester City, Alvarez is not content and wants more game time in the 2024/25 season. Meanwhile, the World Cup winner is a target for several high-profile clubs across Europe, with Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain keen on signing him.

A man in demand

Chelsea’s interest in Julian Alvarez is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a striker heading into the summer transfer window. They want to transform their attack and become a top-four contender in the 2024/25 season. The Manchester City striker has thus emerged as a viable target for Chelsea.

As for PSG, the reigning Ligue 1 champions are also scouring the market for a productive attacker after losing Kylian Mbappe to Real Madrid. So, several candidates, including Lautaro Martinez, have emerged on PSG’s radar, with Alvarez also an option worth considering for Les Parisiens.

However, a summer move will unlikely see the light of day despite Alvarez demanding more game time. Manchester City will not entertain offers for the 24-year-old Argentine international, meaning Chelsea and PSG must look elsewhere to sign a productive striker in the summer transfer window.
