Julian Alvarez has been linked with a move away from Manchester City in recent weeks, with Barcelona interested in him.

A report from Fichajes claims that Barcelona are keen on signing Julian Alvarez. But Manchester City are not interested in selling the 23-year-old Argentine international.

Alvarez scored 17 goals across all competitions last season, and he was a key player for Pep Guardiola. Although he did not start every game, he was a key member of the side and scored some important goals for them as they won the league title as well as the UEFA Champions League. He helped his country win the World Cup as well.

There is no doubt that the 23-year-old is a phenomenal talent with a big future ahead of him. So, it is hardly a surprise that clubs like Barcelona want to secure his services. The Catalan giants are overly dependent on Robert Lewandowski, and they will need more quality at their disposal. Alvarez would be a superb acquisition for them.

Manchester City are one of the wealthiest clubs in the world, and they do not need to sell players. They will want to keep Alvarez at the club for as long as possible. The 23-year-old has all the tools to develop into a world-class striker.

However, Manchester City already have Erling Haaland ahead of him in the pecking order. The Argentine international will want to play regularly as the centre-forward in order to continue his development. If Manchester City cannot provide him with that platform, he might angle for a move in the coming months.

The 23-year-old is versatile enough to operate in the wide areas as well as a central attacking midfielder. Whichever club manages to sign him will have a tremendous prospect on their hands for the foreseeable future.

The opportunity to join a club like Barcelona can be hard to turn out for most players, especially South Americans. Alvarez will certainly be tempted to join the Spanish club if there is a concrete proposal on the table. In addition to that, if Barcelona can promise him regular game time, the striker could really be keen on the prospect of playing for them.

It will be interesting to see whether Manchester City can give him the necessary assurances and convince him that staying at the Etihad Stadium would be ideal for his development and career. But the Premier League champions are not interested in parting ways with the 23-year-old anytime soon.
