Barcelona and Chelsea have reportedly fallen behind Paris Saint-Germain in the race to sign 18-year-old Brazilian prodigy Gabriel Moscardo.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Gabriel Moscardo is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions are the front-runners to sign the 18-year-old midfield sensation. Meanwhile, the Corinthians prodigy is also a target for other European bigwigs like Chelsea and Barcelona.

Gabriel Moscardo might not have envisioned such a rapid rise to fame when he broke into the first-team squad at Corinthians. A graduate of the Brazilian club’s academy, the teenage wonderkid is one of the best young prospects in his homeland. And he only made his senior bow for Corinthians earlier this year.

The 18-year-old midfield sensation has already turned out 24 times for Corinthians, chipping in with a goal. Gabriel Moscardo’s progress has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of high-profile clubs across Europe. Barcelona, Chelsea, and Paris Saint-Germain are three of his prospective suitors.

Reports earlier this month pointed to Barcelona being in the pole position to sign Gabriel Moscardo. But the situation has changed, with SPORT suggesting PSG as the leader in the race to sign him. Meanwhile, Barcelona can do with a player of the Brazilian’s qualities after losing Sergio Busquets this past summer.

As for Chelsea, recent rumours claimed they had sealed an agreement to secure Gabriel Moscardo’s services. But Fabrizio Romano has put such suggestions to bed, although the Blues remain keen on signing him. However, it is unclear how Chelsea can fit him into the scheme of things at Stamford Bridge.

PSG recently became the latest high-profile club to show interest in the Brazilian midfield sensation. The Ligue 1 champions are ready to dip their toes in the market for a midfield next year amid uncertainties surrounding the futures of Fabian Ruiz and Carlos Soler. The Corinthians prodigy has thus emerged as a viable target.

The report by SPORT has pointed to PSG being in the pole position to sign Gabriel Moscardo. So, Barcelona and Chelsea have an uphill task to land the 18-year-old wonderkid from Corinthians next year.
