Premier League giants Manchester City are reportedly in pole position to sign 16-year-old Brazilian wonderkid Eduardo Conceicao from Palmeiras.
According to a report by ESPN Brazil, Eduardo Conceicao is the subject of interest from Manchester City. Barcelona and Chelsea are also keen on signing the Palmeiras wonderkid, with the two European giants in regular contact with his entourage. However, they are behind City in the battle for the 16-year-old winger’s signature.
Who is Eduardo Conceicao?
Eduardo Conceicao is the latest promising prodigy to rise in prominence in his homeland. Born in Sao Paulo, the teenage sensation has spent his formative years thus far in Brazil, rising through the ranks at Palmeiras. The 16-year-old has already broken into the under-20 team at the club, and he has been impressive in age-group football in the country.
Conceicao has scored five goals and provided three assists in 531 minutes of game time across 13 appearances in all competitions this term, and his exploits have piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs. Barcelona, Chelsea, and Manchester City are among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
High in demand
Barcelona’s interest in the Palmeiras attacking sensation is hardly surprising. The Catalan giants rarely spurn an opportunity to bolster their youth ranks, with Joan Laporta overseeing a youth-driven project since returning to the club as the president. Many youngsters have taken advantage of the situation, with Gavi, Pedri, Lamine Yamal, and others becoming the cornerstone of Barcelona’s first team.
Meanwhile, Chelsea’s links with Eduardo Conceicao are the latest in the West London club’s storied forays into the South American market, with Estevao Willian becoming the latest player to break into the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge. With Alejandro Garnacho and Jamie Gittens being inconsistent this season, they must seek a long-term solution on the left flank from the market.
As for Manchester City, Jeremy Doku and Savinho have not been as consistent as Pep Guardiola would have liked, and the Citizens need more productivity from the left flank. So, being ahead of the curve and signing Conceicao from Palmeiras will be a step in the right direction.
While Chelsea, Barcelona, and even PSG are in regular contact with the 16-year-old Brazilian’s representatives, they are Manchester City in the battle for his signature. However, recent reports have claimed that Palmeiras will not entertain offers for the teenage prospect. So, his European suitors may face an uphill task to sign the youngster in the coming years.
