Former Tottenham midfielder Jermaine Jenas has backed his old club to sign Savinho from Manchester City, while insisting he might be the player they need
Tottenham are advancing on a reported £60 million deal to sign Manchester City winger Savinho, with former Spurs midfielder Jermaine Jenas endorsing the move. De Zerbi, appointed after guiding Spurs to safety on the final day of the 2025/26 season, has been tasked with rebuilding the squad, and Savinho is among his priority targets to strengthen the wide areas and attacking depth.
Spurs have moved quickly in the transfer market, signing defenders Andrew Robertson and Marcos Senesi on free transfers, while agreeing a £52 million deal for Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. The club is also keen to secure a long-term contract for Pedro Porro, while there have been reports of interest in midfielder Sandro Tonali. Savinho is a key target for attacking and wide play.
The pursuit has accelerated in recent days. Tottenham talks for Savinho are progressing rapidly, with sources suggesting a deal could materialise within days. City had resisted Spurs’ interest last summer, with Pep Guardiola offering Savinho fresh terms, but the Brazilian’s performances this season — four goals and three assists across all competitions — appear not to have altered the club’s willingness to move him on.
Jermaine Jenas has become a vocal backer of the signing. Speaking to TeamTalk, Jenas argued that Spurs’ attacking depth has been hollowed by injury to Dominic Solanke and Mohammed Kudus, both of whom endured lengthy lay-offs — and that Savinho’s pace and creativity could address that gap.
Jenas said, “I think Savinho is on the list as well.
“I mean, they desperately need the front three looking at. For me, I think that’s what really let them down last year.
“Dominic Solanke has obviously struggled with injury all year, and Mohammed Kudus didn’t deliver as much because of his injuries as well.
“So I know they obviously have the players, but I think they need some stability in those higher areas too.
“I would like to see Savinho come to the football club. I think that he offers something because he’s got that Premier League experience already.
“I like him, and I think he could offer Spurs creativity out wide, which is what they need. He’s the one that probably stands out the most of the targets being named.”
Spurs do need reinforcement in the wide areas following long-term absences for Kudus and Dejan Kulusevski, with Wilson Odobert also sidelined. Savinho brings pace and trickery on the wings that De Zerbi would favour, compared to current squad options available to him.
