Former Norwegian star Eivind Bisgaard Sundet has given Martin Odegaard some encouragement about a possible future move to Bayern Munich and the Bundesliga.
Martin Odegaard has been one of the most important signings under Mikel Arteta, if not the most, with his importance in the team growing season on season. Last season, there were persistent fitness concerns, but eventually the Norwegian played a key role as Arsenal lifted the Premier League title after a 22-year wait.
The Gunners skipper has been in the news regarding his future, as the Norwegian has hit another level with his form this season. There are clear indications that the attacking midfielder has put his fitness troubles behind him as he continues to play a key role for Arsenal this season as they sit three points clear at the top of the Premier League table.
With a contract at the Emirates until the summer of 2028, Arsenal are entering a phase where they must decide on their captain’s long-term future. There are suggestions the club are prioritising new deals for Odegaard as well as Jurrien Timber, while Declan Rice is inching closer to signing his.
Arteta is seemingly leaning towards preserving his squad and will view his skipper as one of the most important players to keep. Arsenal are expected to go all out to reach an agreement with Odegaard, although there’s the growing threat from Bayern Munich.
Odegaard given Bayern Munich encouragement
Former Norwegian star Eivind Bisgaard Sundet, via Dagbladet, has given out some encouraging words to Odegaard regarding a potential move to Bayern Munich and Germany. The former star stated that the Gunners man could fit into German football well and thrive, while highlighting that he could become one of the few Norwegian players to represent some of the biggest European clubs in the process.
Bisgaard Sundet said, “I think Bayern would have been a very good fit, says Eivind Bisgaard Sundet.
“He would have been involved a lot. It’s a little less tiring to play in German football than in English football. There are a little less games, you recover more – and Bayern are a more dominant team than Arsenal are in England. You want more ball.”
“Then Bisgaard Sundet went on to state what Arsenal are planning and highlighted what it may mean for Odegaard to represent a club like Bayern Munich.”
Bisgaard Sundet continued, “Arsenal wants at all costs to avoid Odegaard entering the last year of his contract and, in the worst case, leaving for free in 2028.
“Would Bayern Munich be a good step in your career?
“If you can tick off Real Madrid and Bayern Munich in your career, there aren’t many Norwegian players who have done that, points out Bisgaard Sundet.
“That sounds good. I think he’s going to move back home to Drammen eventually. I don’t know what else he’s thinking.”
Bayern Munich are indeed interested in Odegaard, with the club looking at established players to help them progress in their European endeavours.
There are suggestions the resurgent Arsenal talisman may even be open to the idea, although there are no suggestions he is pushing to leave North London. The Gunners could push for a renewal soon, and the progression in those conversations will determine Bayern’s chances.
