Juventus intensify efforts to sign Alisson Becker

Serie A giants Juventus are reportedly stepping up their interest in 33-year-old Brazilian international Alisson Becker, with talks underway with the Liverpool stopper for a deal.

Reputed Italian journalist Mirko Di Natale has revealed that Liverpool goalkeeper Alisson Becker remains the subject of interest from Juventus, with the two parties discussing a three-year contract. The Serie A heavyweights are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a goalkeeper in the upcoming transfer window.

The latest update has revealed that the Bianconeri will attempt to tie the South American shot-stopper to a deal with €5 million-a-year wages. Meanwhile, Liverpool will demand at least €10 million to part ways with the experienced goalkeeper in the summer transfer window.

How has Alisson Becker fared at Liverpool?

Alisson Becker has become the world’s best goalkeeper since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in a deal worth €62.5 million in July 2018. The 33-year-old arrived at Anfield after an impressive stint with AS Roma, and he has established himself as a cornerstone for both club and country in the last eight seasons.

The Brazilian international has made nearly 350 appearances thus far for Liverpool while keeping 137 clean sheets and conceding 305 goals. However, the veteran goalkeeper has struggled with fitness issues in recent seasons, leading to speculation surrounding his future at Anfield. The situation has piqued the attention of several high-profile clubs, with Juventus among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.

Serie A return on the horizon?

Juventus’s interest in Alisson Becker makes sense. The Serie A heavyweights are combing the market for a world-class goalkeeper, as Michele Di Gregorio and Mattia Perin have not been competent enough with the ball at their feet. So, Luciano Spalletti wants Juventus to dip into the market for a reliable shot-stopper who has the technical qualities to build play from the back.

Several candidates, including James Trafford, have thus emerged on Juventus’s wishlist, with Alisson also a viable target due to his technical and shot-stopping prowess. However, recent reports have suggested that the Bianconeri may face difficulty in the battle for his signature due to his excessive wages.

The latest update has quashed those suggestions, as the Brazilian’s camp is discussing a three-year contract with €5 million-a-year wages. With Liverpool not demanding a premium to sell the 33-year-old, the Italian outfit should not face budgetary constraints during negotiations with the Reds and the player.
