Chelsea are reportedly interested in re-signing Joao Felix this summer but will face competition from Barcelona for the Portuguese international.

A report from 90min claims that Barcelona want to sign Joao Felix. And Chelsea could now rival them in the race to sign the Portuguese international. Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid might be open to loaning him out before the summer transfer window shuts down.

The Atletico Madrid attacker, who joined Los Rojiblancos in a deal worth €126 million, was on loan at Chelsea during the second half of last season. But his performances were largely underwhelming.

Although he impressed with his technicality and link-up play, he struggled to score goals consistently. It will be interesting to see if Chelsea decide to sign him permanently. The Blues need to bring in someone who can score goals consistently, and Felix is certainly not a prolific goalscorer.

The 23-year-old has the technical ability to be a key player for Chelsea in the attack. But the Blues must invest in a poacher right now amid interest in Dusan Vlahovic. Also, Atletico Madrid are unlikely to let the player leave for cheap. So Felix is likely to come at a premium. Chelsea could be priced out of a move for the Portuguese international.

It will be interesting to see if Chelsea decide to make a permanent move for the player. Apparently, the player’s representatives have remained in contact with the West London club since his departure earlier this year.

Mauricio Pochettino decided not to pursue the player earlier this summer. But failure to sign Michael Olise has now resulted in Chelsea considering a move for the Atletico Madrid attacker. Apparently, Felix enjoyed his loan spell at the London club, and he is open to returning to Stamford Bridge. It remains to be seen how the situation develops in the next few days.

Barcelona have a number of attackers at their disposal. So it is highly unlikely that they will look to sign the player unless there are big money departures. Players like Ansu Fati and Ferran Torres have been linked with moves away from the Spanish club in recent weeks. And the Barcelona prospect has recently been offered to Chelsea.

Barcelona are already going through financial difficulties, and they might not be able to afford Felix permanently. It is fair to assume that if a move to Camp Nou goes through, it would have to be a loan move.
