Tottenham reject Atletico Madrid bid for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Atletico Madrid recently submitted a bid worth £16 million for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, which Tottenham Hotspur turned down.

According to a report by The Times, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg remains the subject of interest from La Liga club Atletico Madrid. And the Colchoneros recently submitted a bid worth £16 million to sign the 27-year-old. But Tottenham Hotspur immediately turned down the offer for the midfielder.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has come leaps and bounds since arriving in England. The Danish midfielder could not make his mark at Bayern Munich during his three-year stint at the Allianz Arena. And he established himself as one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League during his spell with Southampton. Meanwhile, his stint with Tottenham Hotspur has also been a success.

The 27-year-old midfield powerhouse joined Tottenham from Southampton nearly three years ago. And he has been a mainstay in the middle of the park for the North London club, amassing nearly 150 appearances. He has also chipped in with ten goals and 16 assists in those outings. But Hojbjerg’s stint with Tottenham might end this summer, as he wants to embark on a new adventure.

Tottenham’s failure to qualify for a European competition has contributed to several well-known players wanting to leave. And the Danish international is one of the pivotal figures looking to call it quits at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Meanwhile, he does not have any shortage of suitors, with Atletico Madrid keen on signing him.

Tottenham will unlikely stand in Hojbjerg’s way amid widespread reports linking them with Franck Kessie. In addition, Giovani Lo Celso might resurrect his stuttering career at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. Tanguy Ndombele might not depart from the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium either. So parting ways with the 27-year-old might not be the end of the world.

It has now emerged that Atletico Madrid recently offered £16 million to secure Hojbjerg’s services. But that has not swayed Tottenham, with the North London club rejecting the bid from the Spanish club. Tottenham will look to recoup more from Hojbjerg’s sale, but the report has claimed that an agreement might be close.

It will be interesting to see if Atletico Madrid will return with an improved bid. But with Tottenham not accepting £16 million from Los Rojiblancos, something will have to give. Nonetheless, a new adventure in La Liga might be on the cards for Hojbjerg.
