La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly fallen behind Liverpool in the race to sign the in-demand Jude Bellingham from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

According to a report by Spanish publication Mundo Deportivo, Jude Bellingham is likelier to join Liverpool than Real Madrid. The Reds are also ahead of Manchester City in the race to sign the in-demand English midfielder from Bundesliga club Borussia Dortmund.

Jude Bellingham has been one of the most highly-sought after players in the market since breaking into the Birmingham City FC first-team squad as a 16-year-old. Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund eventually won the race to sign him two and a half years ago. And the 19-year-old has gone from strength to strength at Signal Iduna Park.

Bellingham has been one of the best midfielders in the Bundesliga in the last two and a half seasons. At the same time, the teenage prodigy has become a pivotal figure for England. And the youngster, who has nine goals and three assists in 22 appearances this term, has captured the attention of Real Madrid and Liverpool.

Real Madrid will lay down the succession plan for Luka Modric and Toni Kroos in the foreseeable future. At the same time, Los Blancos will likely lose Dani Ceballos next year. So the reigning La Liga champions are likely to dip their toes in the market for a midfield reinforcement. And Jude Bellingham has emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid.

Recent reports have claimed that Real Madrid will soon step up the efforts to sign the Englishman. But according to Mundo Deportivo, the Merengues have fallen behind Liverpool in the race to sign the 19-year-old.

The Reds are also in the market for a midfielder amid the falling levels of Jordan Henderson and James Milner. In addition, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will likely leave Liverpool as free agents. Bellingham is thus an option worth considering for Liverpool. And the Reds are optimistic about beating Real Madrid to his signature.

The Merseyside giants are reportedly willing to pay up to €150 million by including add-ons to sign Bellingham. And with Real Madrid unwilling to shell out as much, Liverpool will be in the pole position to sign the in-demand English midfielder from Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund.
