Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United will reportedly vie for the signature of Leicester City defender Wesley Fofana.

According to Nathan Gissing, Wesley Fofana is increasingly becoming a transfer topic at Stamford Bridge for a Chelsea side desperate for defensive reinforcements this summer. The Leicester City centre-back is currently one of the most in-demand defensive prospects in Europe, with Manchester United and Manchester City also involved in the chase.

A product of the Saint-Etienne youth academy, Fofana has become one of the rising stars in the Premier League over the past couple of years. Since joining Leicester City in 2020, the youngster has become a defensive lynchpin for the club, racking up 44 competitive appearances for the Foxes.

Although Fofana’s progress in the ongoing season has been marred by injuries, the youngster is still regarded highly due to his technical ability and dogged defensive philosophy. The Frenchman is an excellent athlete as well and is one of the fastest defenders in the Premier League.

Such qualities and a seemingly limitless potential has made the former Saint-Etienne starlet one of the most sought-after defenders in Europe. Manchester City, for one, have expressed the desire to sign him in the summer as Pep Guardiola looks to beef up his options at the heart of the backline.

Manchester United are another club closely monitoring the situation of Fofana. The Premier League giants are expected to undergo a major defensive overhaul in the new summer, especially amid rumours suggesting Eric Bailly’s potential exit from Old Trafford. Phil Jones could leave Manchester United as well, thus accentuating the need for a new face in the defensive unit.

Chelsea, meanwhile, are on the hunt for defensive reinforcements as they brace themselves for the exit of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen. The former has reportedly agreed a Bosman move to Real Madrid, forcing Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel to enter the market for a new defensive prospect.

The Blues have recently been linked with RB Leipzig ace Josko Gvardiol. But in Fofana, Chelsea could find themselves a proven Premier League prospect, who may even leave Leicester City in the summer following a poor season.

Although the Foxes are expected to provide fierce resistance, Chelsea, Manchester City or Manchester United tabling an attractive offer could easily convince them to cash in, ahead of a potential rebuild this summer.
