Nick Woltemade has vowed to stay at Newcastle United despite summer exit rumours, insisting he wants to establish himself at the club.
Newcastle United sold Alexander Isak in a record deal last summer but recruited Nick Woltemade and Yoane Wissa as replacements. Both strikers struggled during a difficult campaign that left the club without European football next term. Wissa managed just one league goal, with reports stating Newcastle are ready to sell the DR Congo international and cut their losses.
Woltemade, 23, arrived in a deal worth more than €80 million, as reported by Fabrizio Romano on X. Under Eddie Howe, he played in multiple positions — second striker and midfield — and produced 12 goals across all competitions, including eight in the league. The German’s mixed first season reflects Newcastle’s broader squad adaptation following the Isak departure.
Reports of a possible departure have emerged this summer amid claims of uncertainty within the team. Some reports have linked him with Aston Villa, while other suitors have also been mentioned. However, the Newcastle United star is in no rush to leave, and based on his comments to Fussball Transfers, he is committed to establishing himself at Newcastle.
Woltemade said, “I moved to the Premier League at 23, the best league in the world. I’ve learned a lot this season. I’ve improved athletically, and I can keep up with the tremendous pace and hold my own in challenges. Overall, it’s been a step forward. That’s why I have no doubts about Newcastle. I’ll make my mark there.”
Howe is reportedly keen to block any approaches from suitors, and Woltemade’s comments suggest he shares that sentiment. Despite the continued interest from rival clubs, Newcastle are not expected to sell the German cheaply. Reports suggest Bayern Munich could be priced out of any deal, underscoring the realistic asking price Newcastle will demand this summer.
If does end up staying, this is terrific news for Newcastle United, as it reduces some pressure on them amid rumours they could lose many of their stars. Woltemade has shown plenty of promise in the season despite the criticisms, but his imemdiate future should be at Tyneside.
