Jorge Messi has handed Barcelona a boost in the chase for Lionel Messi as the Argentine international wants to rejoin them.

In a recent interview, as relayed by Fabrizio Romano, Jorge Messi revealed that Lionel Messi wants to return to Barcelona in the summer transfer window. The Argentine international’s father himself wants his son to seal a dream move back to Spotify Camp Nou. And with La Liga reportedly approving Barcelona’s viability plan, a transfer is possible.

Jorge Messi said, “Leo wants to return to Barcelona and I’d love to see him back to Barça. Barça move is an option for sure.”

Lionel Messi is one of the most well-known names in footballing history. And the 35-year-old is arguably the greatest player of all time, setting records galore in his professional career. That includes being the most decorated footballer ever while winning the 2022 FIFA World Cup with his national team.

Meanwhile, the Argentine international is the all-time top scorer for Barcelona. And Messi’s record of 672 goals and 303 assists in 778 appearances for the Blaugrana is astounding. He also has 102 strikes in 174 outings for Argentina. Meanwhile, the veteran attacker has spent the last two seasons with PSG.

Messi’s stint with Barcelona came to a tearful end in 2021, as the Blaugrana did not have the funds to renew his deal. And the World Cup winner joined PSG in a Bosman move, with Les Parisiens hoping his arrival might help them win the elusive UEFA Champions League crown. That has unfortunately not happened for PSG, with the top European title still eluding them.

In addition, Messi’s relationship with the PSG fans gradually deteriorated. And the supporters booed him in his final game for the French club this past weekend. So it is hardly surprising that his spell with PSG will officially end at the turn of the month. That is despite amassing 21 goals and 20 assists this month.

Meanwhile, widespread reports have linked the 35-year-old with a dream return to Barcelona. But the Catalan giants have been struggling to put together a package to seal the deal. However, their fortunes have turned, with La Liga reportedly accepting their viability plan.

Barcelona recently presented an informal offer to Messi’s entourage. And with Jorge Messi insisting that the Argentine international is keen on returning to Spotify Camp Nou, a summer deal is on the cards. It will be interesting to see if Barcelona can seal the deal and bring the prodigal son back to Camp Nou.
