Barcelona recently presented an informal offer to Lionel Messi amid emerging links over a possible summer move to Saudi Arabia.

According to Gerard Romero on Jijantes FC, Lionel Messi has received an informal offer from FC Barcelona. The Catalan giants are struggling to get their feasibility plan approved by La Liga. And that is hindering their prospects of re-signing their former captain amid emerging interest from Saudi Arabia.

Lionel Messi is arguably the greatest player in footballing history. The Argentine international has been the subject of the raging, never-ending debate, which also includes Cristiano Ronaldo, Pele, and Diego Maradona. But after guiding La Albiceleste to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, he should have ended the argument.

Meanwhile, the 35-year-old has enjoyed a legendary career at the club level, spending most of his playing days with Barcelona. And despite his advancing years, Messi’s market value remains at a respectable €45 million. Meanwhile, the World Cup-winning attacker has enjoyed an excellent 2022/23 season, amassing 21 goals and 20 assists in 40 appearances.

But Messi’s stint with PSG will end in the summer transfer window, especially after recent issues with the club and the ultras. So a summer move is on the cards, with Barcelona keen on re-signing him. Recent reports have also linked the veteran playmaker with Newcastle United.

But reports last month suggested the Catalan giants were closing in on re-signing the 35-year-old. That update came after Barcelona presented a feasibility plan to La Liga to overcome the Financial Fair Play issues and get on with the summer transfer window plans. And La Liga had initially approved the submission.

But the Catalan giants remain in a financial mess, with the move for Messi now uncertain. Meanwhile, the Argentine wizard is courting interest from Saudi Arabia. And he stands to earn over €1 billion in total wages if he moves to the Middle East. But Barcelona will not throw in the towel yet, even presenting an informal offer to Messi’s father, Jorge.

While the 35-year-old will earn considerably lower wages if he rejoins Barcelona, he is not averse to the idea. But if FFP issues do not go away, Barcelona will not be in a position to secure Messi’s services. And a move to Saudi Arabia is on the horizon for the World Cup-winning attacker.
