Chelsea goalkeeping coach Christophe Lollichon has blasted Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris, branding him as an overrated player.

As reported by Daily Mirror, Chelsea  coach Christophe Lollichon looks set to kick up a storm, after claiming that Hugo Lloris’s fans are “living in a dream world”. The Frenchman also added that PSG stopper Alphonse Areola, who made his international debut last week, is better than the Tottenham captain.

Lloris is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, having gone from strength to strength over his six-year stint at Tottenham. During this period, he has not only grown in stature to become the captain for both club and country, but also enjoyed considerable success with them.

At Tottenham, he has overseen a period of transformation that has seen them establish themselves as a regular Champions League outfit, while France went on to win the World Cup this year. Unsurprisingly, Lloris has also been linked with a number of high profile clubs. But, if Chelsea goalkeeper coach Christophe Lollichon is to be believed, he might be overrated.

The 55-year-old has claimed that the Tottenham captain’s fans are “living in a dream world” over his abilities. He also added that Alphonse Areola, who was recently linked with Chelsea, is better than Lloris.

“People live in a dream world when it comes to Lloris a bit too much, but for me Areola is above. Against Germany, he was positionally very good and in his ability to come out. It’s the basis of all goalkeepers, but not everyone does it well. He’s pro-active in his anticipation.”

The Chelsea goalkeeper coach continued, “I didn’t wait until Thursday to discover Alphonse. For me, he’s the best current French goalkeeper. He has all the characteristics to be France’s number one. The height, ability with ball in his feet, wingspan, his diving ability, footwork. He’s the most adapted to how they play.”

Lollichon was also in news last week, when he claimed that Areola wanted to join Chelsea this past summer. While he is admittedly a fan of the French international, who enjoyed a stunning debut last week, the comments are sure to kick up a storm.

Lloris has created a solid reputation for himself over the years, with his exploits for Tottenham and France, even though he has had the tendency to be prone to a rare error. The 31-year-old though, will hope to prove the Chelsea goalkeeper coach wrong with his performances on the pitch, be it for France or the West Londoners’ rivals.
