Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid are looking to sign Manchester City veteran midfielder Bernardo Silva on a free transfer.
Bernardo Silva is set to part ways with Manchester City this summer. The Portuguese international’s contract runs out at the end of the season and he has already confirmed that he will be leaving the club this summer. As a result, a host of top clubs are looking to lure him.
According to a report from Fichajes, Atletico Madrid have their eyes set on Silva, who is amongst the best midfielders in the world. Diego Simeone’s team see this as a great opportunity to bolster their squad with a world class player for free.
Silva’s time at Manchester City
After making a name for himself at AS Monaco, Silva made the move to Manchester City in the summer of 2017. He has only gone from strength to strength over the years and has done wonders for Pep Guardiola’s team. While he prefers playing in midfield, he has been used in a variety of positions by the Spanish manager.
The 31-year-old has played a massive part in all the success the Manchester-based giants have had over the years. He has won six Premier League titles as well as the Champions League during his time at City.
Atletico are making moves to sign Silva
Silva still has quite a few years left in him and he could prove to be a very valuable addition to Simeone’s team, who seek more creativity and experience. The Portugese international is right up there with the very best when it comes to ball control, playmaking and link-up play. He could make Atletico a lot more threatning in posession.
The Madrid-based club are looking to get ahead of the competition by making a move as quickly as possible. They have already begun talks to explore the feasability of a transfer. However, securing his services won’t be easy as there is no shortage of interest and Silva is in no rush to make a decision on his future just yet.
