Frank Lampard wants to bring Chelsea teenager Jesse Derry on loan to Coventry City, with the Blues yet to decide on the forward’s future.
Jesse Derry has been quietly growing in stature in the background at Chelsea, with some clubs already looking at the prospect of signing him. As per Team Talk, former Blues midfielder and club legend Frank Lampard wants to take Derry on a season-long loan deal to Coventry City, with the Championship club on the verge of gaining promotion to the Premier League.
Chelsea have a big talent on their hands in young forward Jesse Derry, who was signed from Crystal Palace last summer. He has already made a big mark on proceedings in the background at Cobham, as the teenager was also handed his first-team debut, playing twice in this season’s FA Cup.
He could still end up making more appearances as the season reaches its conclusion, although Chelsea are keen to keep developing the highly-rated 18-year-old forward. Derry could be the subject of interest from a few clubs ahead of the summer, as Real Madrid have previously expressed their admiration for the forward, alongside other teenage prospects from the Premier League.
However, the most concrete interest might be coming from Coventry City, managed by former midfielder and Chelsea legend Frank Lampard. The Championship leaders are anticipating Premier League football next season, as Lampard wants to raid his former side for one of their prestigious talents.
Lampard wants to take Derry on a season-long loan to help Coventry City add a talented attacker, as well as help Chelsea in their bid to develop the player. The highly-rated 18-year-old forward could benefit from a spell under the Chelsea legend, although the deal may not be as straightforward as it seems.
Will Chelsea allow Jesse Derry to leave on loan?
Coventry City might prove to be a good option for Chelsea to let Derry join on loan if it were to aid his development. A bout of regular minutes with a newly promoted side will be a good idea, although Chelsea are still contemplating what they want to do next with Derry.
Given that the Londoners are accelerating the development of several players with consistent first-team minutes, they are also reportedly anticipating Derry to stake his claim in the first-team squad next season. While a loan move to play under Lampard could be a good deal for the highly-rated 18-year-old forward, the Blues will take a final call on his immediate future soon.
