Manchester United wanted to acquire the services of former Real Madrid skipper Sergio Ramos on transfer deadline day.

According to a report by The Sun, Manchester United were keen on having Sergio Ramos in their ranks in the summer transfer window. The Red Devils submitted an offer for his services on transfer deadline day. But, it was instantly rejected by the 37-year-old Spanish defender.

Manchester United had a busy day at the office on transfer deadline day. They had quite a few problems to deal with starting with a new backup goalkeeper. The Red Devils ended up signing Altay Bayindir and then added Sergio Reguilon to cover in the absence of Luke Shaw.

They even managed to strike a deal with Fiorentina for the services of midfielder Sofyan Amrabat. While the majority of their transfer business was done, they were also on the lookout for a new defender. Raphaël Varane’s injury earlier in the month forced Erik ten Hag to push for another centre-back.

Despite being in the twilight of his career, quite a few clubs were keen on having the former Real Madrid skipper in their ranks. There was interest from Saudi Arabian clubs as well as Turkish clubs. Meanwhile, even Manchester United submitted an offer.

The Red Devils approached the multi-time Champions League winner. But they were a touch slow to provide the details of the offer. They eventually put forward a one-year offer which would see him earn £73,000-a-week. The World Cup winner rejected the offer straight away.

After facing rejection in their pursuit of Ramos, Manchester United ended up signing Jonny Evans, who was a;ready training with the club. Evans even featured in United’s last outing against Arsenal which ended in a 3-1 defeat.

Meanwhile, Ramos has rejected big money offers from Saudi Arabia and Turkey in order to return to his childhood club Sevilla. The 37-year-old has returned to Sevilla 18 years after leaving them for Real Madrid.
