Chelsea rival Aston Villa in Stephen McMullan pursuit

Chelsea are keen to get ahead of the queue of clubs, including Aston Villa, in the chase for Stephen McMullan.

According to The Sun, Chelsea are set to rival Aston Villa in the chase for Stephen McMullan. The 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation has been performing impressive performances for Fleetwood Town, with some of the big clubs in the Premier League keen to take him on board.

Premier League clubs are always looking for young, promising talents from the lower division and look to bring those on board for their youth teams. A few exceptions in the process come in from smaller teams and slot straight into the first team setup for the top division sides.

Chelsea are among the more active teams signing younger players to build their future projects. Over the last 12 months, they have spent enormously to bring in some of the best young talents worldwide.

While most of them were seen fit to join the first-team setup, Chelsea are now ready to focus on their youth setup and add there. Fleetwood Town’s 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation Stephen McMullan has fallen on their radar, as the Blues are now keen to bring him to London.

McMullan has made his senior debut for Fleetwood in League One, keeping a clean sheet against MK Dons. The League One side would hope the 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation remains at the club and makes future appearances. But it is always difficult in the face of Premier League interest.

Chelsea are looking at McMullan as a potential signing, but not for their first team. While they have problems in the goalkeeping department, the 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation will only come into the team for their youth setup.

Chelsea want to sell Kepa Arrizabalaga and Edouard Mendy in the upcoming summer window. They want to refresh that department in the first team and bring in a player with the quality to play for them at the highest level.

Inter Milan’s Andre Onana remains a target alongside many other names, with some coming from the Premier League. As for McMullan, he hopes to come into the team and challenge for a first-team place shortly. Chelsea’s path towards the 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation is not easy, with some of their rivals also keen.

Aston Villa are among those keeping close tabs on McMullan’s situation. The Midlands side are keen to bring the youngster to their setup and could make promises over a quicker path to the first team setup. They are set with Emi Martinez in the No.1 spot for now, but they would need a promising star in his place in a few years.

McMullan will have to make a big decision in the summer regarding his future. The lure of top clubs could often tempt a player his age to move about, but it will have to be a wise decision in the end. The 18-year-old goalkeeping sensation will probably make a call based on where he might get first-team opportunities quicker.
