Kepa Arrizabalaga could depart in the summer as Chelsea plan to bring in a new goalkeeper and trim their wages.

According to Football Insider, Chelsea could look at the possibility of selling Kepa Arrizabalaga in the summer. The Blues are searching for a new goalkeeper and remain intent on trimming their wages ahead of the new season.

Chelsea have done some tremendous work in the transfer window over since last summer. Spending around £540 million let them secure some of the brightest young talents from elsewhere, including a British record fee for Argentine Enzo Fernandez.

Heading into next season, they still have plenty of key areas to cover and continue their exciting team build-up. The goalkeeping situation will be a firm agenda for co-owner Todd Boehly as he considers the futures of both his shot-stoppers.

Edouard Mendy is certain to depart Chelsea in the summer as he finds himself without much game time. His situation does not reflect upon his stature as a Champions League and AFCON winner, with Kepa Arrizabalaga the firm first choice under Graham Potter.

Chelsea reportedly are looking at Robert Sanchez as a replacement for Mendy, which suggested Kepa’s place in the side could be safe. However, the report claims the club could evaluate the 28-year-old first-team star situation and possibly look to sell him as well.

Not long ago, reports emerged of Chelsea discussing a new contract with Mendy. With that out of the water, there is no chance of a new deal for Kepa, with his current agreement expiring in 2025.

Kepa arrived in a world record bid for a goalkeeper, which is yet to be broken. While his performances over the years have not reflected on the huge outlay, he has been a reliable outlet at times. However, the Chelsea board are keen on trimming their wage bill with the 28-year-old first-team star on a huge salary.

Illan Meslier remains a target for Chelsea alongside Brentford’s David Raya, Dortmund’s Gregor Kobel and Atletico Madrid’s Jan Oblak. The Blues certainly want a new stopper between the sticks, which could spell the end for both of their current choices.

With Chelsea contemplating selling the 28-year-old first-team star could allow teams from Spain to look at Kepa over the summer. Meanwhile, Chelsea might bring in a new no.2 or promote one of the stars from the academy to the first team.
