Barcelona will reportedly look to offer a part-exchange deal to bring down the asking price, worth €54 million, to sign Juan Foyth.

According to a report by Javi Miguel of AS, Barcelona will not have the means to afford to sign Juan Foyth. The World Cup winner has a release clause worth €54 million in his contract with Villarreal. But the Blaugrana will look to offer a player-plus-cash deal to bring down the asking price.

Juan Foyth has moved on well from his forgettable stint with Tottenham Hotspur. The Argentine international’s first move to Europe did not work, and he will be thankful for the call from the Yellow Submarine. He has come leaps and bounds in the last two and a half years while rising in stature on the international stage.

The 25-year-old was a part of Argentina’s World Cup-winning squad in Qatar a few months ago. Meanwhile, the player has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 campaign thus far, chipping in with one goal and two assists in 19 appearances. And Foyth’s progress has captured the attention of several top clubs, including Barcelona.

Barcelona will delve into the market for a right-back in the summer transfer window. And president Joan Laporta has confirmed the same, suggesting that is one of the problem areas in the squad. The stance is understandable, considering they have been scrambling for Dani Alves’s long-term successor for half a decade, if not longer.

Since then, Alves has returned and left for a second time, leaving a gaping hole in the squad. The Hector Bellerin experiment did not work either, and Jules Kounde is Barcelona’s first-choice right-back. Sergi Roberto is the only other option at Xavi Hernandez’s disposal. So it is hardly surprising that Foyth has emerged as a target for Barcelona.

But the World Cup winner has a release clause worth €54 million in his contract with Villarreal. That is a stumbling block for Barcelona, whose financial woes do not show any signs of ending. And the Catalan giants will look to offer a player-plus-cash deal to sweeten the deal. But recent reports have claimed that the Yellow Submarine will not engage in any negotiations for the Argentine.

Nico Gonzalez, Sergino Dest, and Clement Lenglet will be among the options to be a makeweight to bring down the asking price of €54 million. And it will be interesting to see if Villarreal will be open to concluding such a deal with Barcelona. For now, Foyth remains a priority for the Catalan outfit.
