Barcelona might look to sign Argentine defender Juan Foyth, who could leave Villarreal for around €30 million, in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Juan Foyth is the subject of interest from Barcelona. Xavi Hernandez is keen on bringing the 2022 FIFA World Cup winner into his squad in the summer transfer window. And the Argentine defender could leave Villarreal for around €30 million.

Juan Foyth has established himself as one of the best defenders in La Liga since joining Villarreal. That is a far cry from his travails at Tottenham Hotspur, where he was a bit-part player. But the 25-year-old has been a pivotal figure since his initial loan stint. And he continues to remain a star performer under Quique Setien.

The Argentine international has turned out 82 times thus far for Villarreal, chipping in with three goals and five assists. And Foyth was recently a part of Argentina’s triumphant squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.

The former Tottenham defender has been on Barcelona’s radar since the summer transfer window of 2022. But a move did not materialise last year due to Villarreal’s high asking price. However, the interest from Barcelona remains, as Xavi Hernandez seeks a long-term right-back solution from the market.

Recent reports have also claimed that Barcelona will prioritise signing Foyth. But the World Cup winner has a release clause valued over €50 million, which complicates Barcelona’s chase. However, the Catalan giants remain keen on signing the Argentine defender in the summer transfer window.

In particular, Xavi Hernandez is eager to bring the 25-year-old into his squad in the summer transfer window. And the report claims that Foyth could leave Villarreal for around €30 million at the end of the season. That price tag might fall within Barcelona’s budget in the summer.

Barcelona will struggle to sanction big-money deals amid the never-ending financial woes. But spending €30 million to sign the World Cup winner might be possible. And it will be interesting to see if Foyth finally arrives at Spotify Camp Nou, more than a year after Barcelona first showed interest in him.
