La Liga heavyweights Barcelona have reportedly reignited their interest in 24-year-old Argentine international Juan Foyth.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Juan Foyth is the subject of interest from Barcelona over a possible move next year. But the Blaugrana will have to trigger the release clause, worth €42 million, to prise the Argentine international away from Villarreal.

Juan Foyth has revitalised his career since joining Villarreal from Tottenham Hotspur. The 24-year-old went backwards in his four-year stint with the north London club, failing to establish himself as a regular figure. But a successful loan stint followed by a permanent move to Villarreal has done wonders for him.

The Argentine international has been one of the most dependable defenders in La Liga in the last two seasons. But Foyth has struggled with fitness issues this season, managing only 246 minutes of game time in four appearances thus far. Nonetheless, he remains a popular figure in the market, with Barcelona interested.

Barcelona showed interest in signing Foyth in the summer transfer window, but a move did not materialise. The Argentine international was also keen on joining the Blaugrana, but his release clause spoilt the party. The Catalan giants were not ready to fork out €42 million amid their financial distress.

The Blaugrana eventually secured the services of Hector Bellerin, who cost them nothing. But the Spaniard has only signed a one-year contract with Barcelona and might not be at Camp Nou next season. In addition, Sergi Roberto has regressed considerably and might leave Barcelona in the summer.

Foyth has thus emerged as a viable target again for Barcelona. But his release clause will again pose a problem for the Catalan outfit, who might not be open to forking out €42 million to sign the Argentine international. Meanwhile, Diogo Dalot is another target for Barcelona, but there are complications in pursuing the Manchester United defender.

Recent reports have claimed that Dalot is an “impossible target” for Barcelona. So something will have to give for the Blaugrana. And it will be interesting to see if the Catalan giants shell out around €42 million to sign Foyth from Villarreal.
