Barcelona will unlikely manage to sign Diogo Dalot, who should remain at Manchester United for the foreseeable future.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, Barcelona will have to identify alternatives for Diogo Dalot. The Portuguese defender is an “impossible target” for the Blaugrana, as he will likely remain at Manchester United for the foreseeable future.

Diogo Dalot has finally found a semblance of stability at Manchester United after a few years of struggles. A loan spell at AC Milan has aided the player’s cause, even though he did not regularly feature at San Siro. And the 23-year-old has become the first-choice right-back for Manchester United this year, with Ralf Rangnick first promoting him.

The Portuguese international has featured in every game for Manchester United this season, grabbing one goal and two assists. But Dalot is in the final year of his contract, which has alerted several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona.

Barcelona signed Hector Bellerin on the deadline day in the summer transfer window. But the Spaniard has not enjoyed a happy return to Camp Nou, with fitness issues and poor form plaguing him. Bellerin’s latest setback came in Barcelona’s defeat to Bayern Munich in the UEFA Champions League, where he was arguably the poorest performer on the pitch.

With Sergi Roberto past his best and Bellerin failing to impress, Barcelona will need to sign a new right-back. And Xavi Hernandez reportedly wants to bring in a new signing in the January transfer window. Dalot had thus emerged as a viable target, with the Blaugrana eyeing the Manchester United defender for a winter move.

But the 23-year-old does not wish to join Barcelona. And recent reports have claimed that Dalot is eager to sign a new contract with Manchester United. The Portuguese international is thus an “impossible target” for Barcelona, according to SPORT. The Catalan giants will therefore have to set their sights elsewhere for a right-back reinforcement.

Manchester United will also look to hand the Portuguese defender a new contract in the coming months. And it looks like Dalot is not going anywhere anytime soon. So it will be interesting to see who emerges on Barcelona’s radar as the ideal right-back reinforcement.
