Diogo Dalot is reportedly uninterested in joining Barcelona and wants to sign a new contract with Manchester United.

According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercato, Diogo Dalot has no interest in joining Barcelona anytime soon. Instead, the Portuguese defender wants to remain at Manchester United and sign a new contract with the Red Devils.

Diogo Dalot was on cloud nine when he joined Manchester United from FC Porto as a prodigious teenager. And why not? After all, then-manager, Jose Mourinho, had heaped constant praise on the 23-year-old. But Dalot has had to bide his time before becoming a regular for Manchester United.

The Portuguese defender has taken the long road to reach his goal, spending a season on loan at AC Milan. And it was only under Ralf Rangnick that he became the first-choice right-back for Manchester United. The situation has not changed under Erik ten Hag, with Dalot playing every game thus far this season.

But Dalot is in the final year of his contract with Manchester United, which has captured the attention of potential suitors. While the Red Devils have the option to extend the deal by a year, clubs like Barcelona have been smelling blood.

Barcelona signed a right-back this past summer, bringing in Hector Bellerin from Arsenal. But the Spanish international has only penned a one-year contract and might not last long at Camp Nou. In addition, Sergi Roberto has seen his performance levels wane following a spate of injuries.

Xavi Hernandez will not want to use centre-backs like Ronald Araujo and Jules Kounde out wide next season. So Dalot is a viable target for Barcelona, with the Blaugrana prioritising a summer move for the Manchester United defender. But Dalot does not want to leave Manchester United anytime soon.

The Portuguese defender is waiting for the Premier League heavyweights to offer him a new deal. And with Manchester United prepared to extend his stay at Old Trafford, Barcelona’s hopes of signing the 23-year-old are down in the dumps. It will be interesting to see who Barcelona will turn to, with Dalot not going anywhere anytime soon.
