Real Madrid will reportedly not take up the opportunity to sign Neymar from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, several intermediaries offered Real Madrid the chance to sign two world-class players in the summer transfer window. But the Merengues do not intend to sign either Neymar or Paul Pogba, as they will be prioritising signing other players.

Neymar is one of the best players of his generation, with the Brazilian international often making the game look easier to play than it is over the past decade. The enterprising forward first rose to prominence during his days at Santos FC, prompting Real Madrid to make an effort to sign him before he joined Barcelona.

The 30-year-old went from strength to strength during his four-year stint with Barcelona, winning eight titles along the way. But Neymar shocked the world when he left Barcelona to join Paris Saint-Germain in August 2017. Since then, the player has endured a topsy turvy ride at Parc des Princes.

While Neymar has continued to perform at an elite level, amassing 100 goals and 60 assists in 144 appearances for PSG, his fitness issues have left a lot to be desired. There have also been times when he has clashed with the decision-makers at PSG, arousing the interest of European bigwigs like Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United in the process.

Neymar has now reached a crossroads in his stint with PSG, with Les Parisiens considering selling him in the summer transfer window. And intermediaries have offered the Brazilian forward to Real Madrid, who were once desperate to secure his services.

But the Spanish giants have no interest in Neymar anymore and have rejected the chance to sign the Brazilian forward, whose compatriot Gabriel Jesus has recently emerged as a target. Interestingly, Real Madrid had chased Neymar’s PSG teammate Kylian Mbappe for nearly twelve months before the Frenchman snubbed them to remain at Parc des Princes.

As for Neymar, the 30-year-old was recently also offered to Barcelona, who do not wish to sign him either. So the former Santos forward is in limbo, with clubs not lining up for his signature. And as things stand, a departure from PSG does not seem like a possibility, especially considering the stature of clubs that Neymar will want to join if he leaves.
