Liverpool have identified Chelsea winger Christian Pulisic as the ideal replacement for Sadio Mane.

According to SportBild’s Christian Falk, Liverpool have expressed the desire to sign Christian Pulisic. The Chelsea forward has emerged as one of the options to replace Sadio Mane at Anfield, as Jurgen Klopp looks to rebuild the attacking setup in the coming summer.

Liverpool have appeared quite adamant in keeping hold of Mane. However, slowly but surely, they are beginning to entertain the idea of the Senegalese international’s potential exit from Anfield, especially amid interest from Bayern Munich.

The Bundesliga giants consider Mane to be an ideal replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The Pole has been heavily linked with a move to Barcelona this summer, with the forward even confirming his exit from Bayern in a recent press conference.

Lewandowski’s potential move to Barcelona could bring about a transfer carousel, as Liverpool are now targeting Chelsea’s Christian Pulisic as a potential replacement for Mane. The Reds are aware of the American international’s uncertain future at the club, as the player has struggled with a lack of game-time at Stamford Bridge.

Thomas Tuchel evidently does not rate the winger all too high. The player himself has had his spell at Chelsea blighted by injury problems. And as Chelsea look to rebuild their squad after the arrival of new owners, Pulisic’s future at the club could be in jeopardy.

Pulisic’s precarious situation at Stamford Bridge has put Liverpool on red alert. Coach Jurgen Klopp has not worked with the player on a professional level, but he knows the American well from his time at Borussia Dortmund when the winger was still a youth player.

Klopp has made positive comments about Pulisic in the past. And it appears the German tactician would be open to signing him for Liverpool ahead of the new season.

Liverpool have already confirmed the arrival of Fabio Carvalho while January signing Luis Diaz has also hit the ground running quickly. Pulisic, with his direct style of play, could add further bite to the Liverpool frontline. It could ultimately help them put up a better fight against Manchester City for the Premier League next season.

However, Chelsea will be apprehensive about offloading their star player to a direct rival unless Liverpool are willing to help them recoup the £58 million they spent on the player a few years ago. Given Liverpool’s policy in the market, that appears to be an unlikely proposition.
