Chelsea have approached Arsenal youngster Khayon Edwards, exploring the possibility of a potential move to Stamford Bridge.

According to a report from Goal, Chelsea have expressed interest in the services of Khayon Edwards. They want to rope in the Arsenal academy star in the upcoming summer transfer window, with the club identifying him as an ideal prospect for Thomas Tuchel.

Chelsea have already approached Edwards, as they are aware of the fact that the player grew up supporting the European champions. Arsenal, though, are set to provide fierce resistance in their pursuit of the youngster, with the Gunners ready to hand him a professional deal ahead of the new season.

A centre-forward by trade, Edwards has been in fine form in the youth leagues this term, racking up 16 goals in just 16 appearances in the U18 Premier League. He has made a couple of appearances for Arsenal’s reserve side as well, with many expecting him to earn the call-up to the senior side in the near future.

Edwards’ majestic scoring form in the youth leagues has not gone unnoticed, with Chelsea taking note of his rapid development. While the Blues have no shortage of quality in the attacking unit, they are keen on unearthing hidden gems in English football and integrating them into the first team.

The Blues, after all, are currently under a transfer embargo and are bracing themselves for a sketchy period in the transfer market. Their main forwards Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner are facing an uncertain future as well, with Tuchel reportedly keen on offloading both the stars.

In light of such uncertainty, Chelsea have stepped up their pursuit of young talents within English football. And in Khayon Edwards, they could land one of the most sought-after young talents in the country, who has serious potential and is a boyhood Chelsea fan.

But as iterated earlier, Arsenal certainly won’t make this operation easier as they look to convince the 18-year-old to prolong his stay at Emirates. The Gunners have a solid track record of developing young talents and have catapulted the careers of Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Emile Smith Rowe in recent years.

Edwards can certainly follow in their footsteps, especially in the new season where the team are likely to lose their remaining senior centre-forwards, including Barcelona and Lyon target Alexandre Lacazette.
