Lyon are considering holding talks with Chelsea over the prospect of signing Emerson Palmieri permanently in the summer.

According to Fichajes, Lyon are set to begin talks with Chelsea over a permanent move for Emerson Palmieri. The on-loan left-back has impressed the French side, who are now ready to negotiate with the Blues to bring his current asking price down and sign him permanently.

The past twelve months have been kind enough for Emerson Palmieri, who has achieved considerable accolades in that period. After playing a handy role in Chelsea’s triumphant Champions League campaign, the left-back played a big part in Italy’s Euros success.

The untimely injury to Leonardo Spinazzola early in the tournament afforded Emerson the chance to start games at left-back. He made the most of his opportunity and played a key part in their Wembley final against England. However, his future at Chelsea had remained uncertain at that time.

The summer transfer window saw Chelsea agree on a season-long loan deal for the left-back with Lyon, including a buy-option. And, Emerson is enjoying his football at the Ligue 1 club, as he has become a regular fixture on the teamsheet. The 27-year-old has played 24 games for the French outfit in all competitions, contributing with a goal and an assist apiece.

Thomas Tuchel tried his best to recall the Italy international during the January window after the season-ending injury to Ben Chilwell. But Lyon held their ground despite many attempts as there was no recall clause inserted for Chelsea to exercise. The Blues then looked at potential alternatives, although they decided to sign no player in the position and instead recalled Kenedy from his loan stint in Brazil.

Now with Emerson making a great impression, Lyon are reportedly planning to begin talks with Chelsea over a permanent transfer. While Lyon could trigger the buy option in the contract and make him their player, the Ligue 1 club are exploring the possibility of reducing the asking price.

The French are hoping to take advantage of the current scenario within Chelsea. They are in turmoil following owner Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell the club. These are uncertain times at Stamford Bridge, with potential implications for the future on the horizon.

It remains to be seen if Chelsea gives Lyon a discount on their initial asking price inserted in the buy option. It could be a good move for the Les Gones and Emerson, who have clicked together.
