Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel has opened up on his prospects at the club after Roman Abramovich’s imminent exit.
Roman Abramovich’s decision to sell Chelsea Football Club has sent shockwaves across Europe. The Russian oligarch had owned the club for almost two decades, helping the West London outfit win 21 trophies. But his decision to sell the club amid pressure from the UK government could leave the club crippled, to say the least.
Influential sporting director Marina Granovskaia and chairman Bruce Buck are already tipped to leave Chelsea following Abramovich’s exit. However, the same fate might not apply to coach Thomas Tuchel, as he confirmed his desire to remain at Stamford Bridge in a recent interaction with the media.
Asked if he would have a problem remaining at Stamford Bridge, Tuchel is quoted by Sky Sports as saying, “No, the opposite of a problem staying here. I said many times that I love working in the Premier League, I love to be in England and feel the tradition and the love for sports in general and football in particular. It’s an amazing place to be.”
“Chelsea is, for me, the perfect fit. I love to be here, I love everything about the club and hopefully it continues.”
The German tactician has been in charge of the Blues since the start of last year and has enjoyed immense success during his short stint in London so far, notably winning the UEFA Champions League last term.

However, Tuchel did concede that Abramovich’s imminent exit is not convenient for Chelsea right now. At the same time, the German insisted on focusing on the results and maintaining their current progress.
“There is uncertainty, but isn’t there always for a football manager?,” Tuchel said. “I’m used to it on different levels. This is quite the level, I have to be honest, but I am positive and hope things will end well.”
Asked if the potential sale could impact the club’s transfer policy in the summer, Tuchel replied, “Actually, to be very honest, there are no talks for summer – not with Marina, not with Petr. It’s simply a bit too early.”
As per reports, Chelsea could soon be on the verge of a takeover with many parties interested, including American investor Todd Boehly, who has joined hands with Swiss businessman Hansjorg Wyss. In addition, Turkish businessman Muhsin Bayrak has recently made an official offer to Abramovich, who is looking for a figure of £4 billion to sell the Blues.
