Javier Pastore has strongly indicated Enzo Fernandez’s willingness to depart Chelsea, which may be seen as a boost for suitors.
Enzo Fernandez remains an integral part of the Argentina national team, who are set to take on Cabo Verde in their round of 32 clash. The aim in the camp is to win the World Cup again, and should they manage that, the Chelsea man will play a major role.
However, speaking of Chelsea, Fernandez’s future at the club is far from certain, which has been the case for the last few months. During the most recent mid-season international break, the midfielder was quoted as saying, “I really like Madrid,” which fuelled speculation that Real Madrid is the player’s preferred destination.
Pastore’s comments that appeared on ESPN stated Fernandez is currently focused on the World Cup, but he insisted they are looking at the possibility of a departure from Chelsea.
Pastore said, “Today the player is calmly thinking about the national team; he is playing in a World Cup, he is very close to reaching the round of 16. He is only thinking about that, and we are looking at possibilities to leave Chelsea, but there is nothing firm or confirmed at any club.”
There has been a lot of chatter involving Real Madrid, including some claims that Fernandez has already reached an agreement with the club. That is not the case, although there is the possibility that the Argentine’s camp might have held some level of talks with the Spanish giants.
However, if Pastore or Fernandez feel that Real Madrid will be boosted by those comments from the agent, they are mistaken. In fact, the Spanish side have released an official statement denying any interest in the Chelsea star, which will come as a bitter blow to the Argentine midfielder.
While Real Madrid are currently distancing themselves from the Chelsea man, who had 22 goal contributions last season, they may yet come back with a fresh approach later. There are instances in the recent past of clubs saying one thing and doing another, considering they did something similar with Ibrahima Konate before returning to sign him in a Bosman move.
Fernandez may not be headed to Real Madrid as things stand, but there are other teams keen, amid reported links to the likes of Manchester City, now managed by former Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca. However, as things stand, there could be further enquiries into these comments from Pastore as far as Chelsea are concerned, which could prompt the club to make a decision.
