Chelsea went into the game with the opportunity to go top of the table with a win. And the team obliged, with Diego Costa, being the opportunist that he is, latched on to the ball from a corner as the Middlesbrough defence was caught napping, and scored the only goal of the game.

The win meant Chelsea dethroned Liverpool from the top of the table, something which comes as a surprise given the fact that it is only a few months into the tenure of Antonio Conte, especially after a disastrous 2015-16 campaign.

Chelsea fans were out in full force on Twitter, hailing Chelsea as they grabbed the top spot on the table for the first time after winning the Premier League title.

Chelsea fans also hailed Antonio Conte and scorer Diego Costa on the night.
