Chelsea are trying to bag AS Roma’s Greek centre-back Kostas Manolas for £30million as scouts go over to see him in action.

According to a report by The Sun, Chelsea’s manager Antonio Conte is on the look-out to sign AS Roma’s centre-back Kostas Manolas. The Italian manager is reportedly a big fan of the Greek’s playing style, and is preparing a bid of £30million.

Reports also suggest that scouts will go over to check Manolas in action as AS Roma play AC Milan in a Serie A match. If they are happy with what they see, then Chelsea is likely to sign on the services of the defender.

Last season, Manolas was strongly linked to a Chelsea move, but he decided to stay back at Roma instead. This time, however, things might be different given how well Chelsea have been performing. They have easily been one of the best teams of this season, and it shows in the way they racked up all those points.

The three-man defence has served Chelsea brilliantly, and Conte has succeeded in making the team adapt to his signature style. Ahead of the transfer season, it was reported that Conte will be looking to strengthen his side as far as both midfield and defence are concerned. As far as boosting the midfield goes, Chelsea was also linked to RB Leipzig’s midfielder Naby Keita.

Manolas has won 28 caps so far Greece, and has been one of the key players when it comes to Roma’s solid defence, having made 41 appearances across all competitions. He has played an integral role when it comes to Roma’s attempt at a top-two finish in the Seria-A table.

However, Manolas still has two years left to complete his contract, and Conte will have to make sure not to lose out on a prospect like the 25-year-old.

He is extremely resilient as well, as once he continued playing a match even after injuring his cheekbone against Greek club Olympiakos. Interestingly, he joined Olympiakos in 2012, and enjoyed a good stint at the club as he became an instant hit with the fans and the management.

Chelsea will be hoping for good news once the scouts return back to Stamford Bridge. They will have to act fast though, since a slew of Premier League clubs have been eyeing him, and so have Inter Milan.
