Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech insisted he will not play second fiddle at Stamford Bridge and a transfer to a new club seems the only possible solution
The return of Thibaut Courtois after his loan period at Atletico Madrid has seen Petr Cech go from the first name on the team sheet to a second choice in a very short time. Still only 32, Cech is understandably unhappy with this situation and few are expecting him to stay with Chelsea as a back-up in the long term. Still regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world it is natural that top clubs are interested in acquiring his service. He has been linked in the press with clubs like Arsenal, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Italian club AS Roma but from Chelseaai??i??s point of view the best thing would be a departure at the end of the season allowing them time to get a suitable number two. Cechai??i??s recent blunder for the Czech Republic highlights the fact that needs more game time and a January move is very much likely. Arsenal
Arsenal are reportedly plotting a move for Cech after being alerted by this situation. Last year we had seen that Jose Mourinho does not mind allowing Chelsea players to join their direct rivals (Juan Mata to Manchester United) so it looks unlikely Mourinho will prevent Cech from joining Arsene Wengerai??i??s side if Arsenal are willing to meet the asking price. The North London side are said to be interested with summer signing David Ospina out injured. Cech represents a significant upgrade on current number one Wojciech SzczAi??sny but it remains to be seen whether Arsene Wenger is willing to invest on another goalkeeper after Ospinaai??i??s signing this summer.
AS Roma
Roma are planning to replace veteran shot-stopper Morgan De Sanctis at the end of this season. His contract expires at the end of this summer while his deputy Lukasz Skorupski still needs time to make the step up. The names mentioned in the Italian press include Petr Cech as the number one target for the Giallorossi. The move would suit both parties as Chelsea wonai??i??t directly strengthen a rival in their league while Roma would sign a quality goalkeeper to lead their charge for the Scudetto as they look relaunch themselves in Italy and Europe. If Roma director Walter Sabatini makes a decent offer for the Czech international then chances are high that he will be reunited with his former teammate Ashley Cole in Rome as early as Janaury.
Real Madrid
Cech is on Real Madridai??i??s list of potential replacements for Iker Casillas. Casillas won his place back in Realai??i??s starting line-up this season but his performances have not been impressive and a section of fans jeered him during the defeat against Atletico Madrid this season. The 33-year-old was dropped for the Euro 2016 qualifying game against Luxembourg following his mistake in Spainai??i??s loss to Slovakia. Machester Unitedai??i??s David De Gea has also been linked but Real Madrid chiefs are aware that a move for Cech will be much easier. Carlo Ancelotti, the present Real manager, previously worked with Cech during his two seasons in charge at Stamford Bridge and he would gladly welcome this opportunity of a reunion. Paris Saint-Germain
The French champions have been on the lookout for a big-name keeper for some time. Salvatore Sirigu is the current number one choice for Laurent Blanc and has been voted the best goalkeeper in Ligue 1 for the past three seasons. However with PSG looking to make a decisive mark in Europe, Cech would present himself as an upgrade on the Italian keeper. Cech spent two years with Rennes before his move to Chelsea and it may seem that he will welcome this opportunity to return in France although reports suggest he prefers a move to Spain rather than France at this juncture.
