Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger believes that Manchester City have the most complete side in the Premier League. The manager also insists that Arsenal can overcome the point difference to get ahead of the top 2.
Chelsea are sitting comfortably on the top of the Premier League table winning 6 of their 7 league games so far. Meanwhile, Manchester City are placed second in the table, 5 points behind the league leaders.
With their brilliant start, many have already predicted Chelsea to win the league comfortably, with Crystal Palace boss Neil Warnock also suggesting an unbeaten season for Mourinhoai??i??s side. However, Wenger does not believe that it will be an easy ride for Chelsea and they will face some serious competition from last seasonai??i??s champions, Manchester City.
“I believe that maybe, going forward, City are a bit more complete,” he told beIN Sports. “City are more offensive. Chelsea defensively are better, but it’s very difficult to say who will be in front.”
Arsenal are currently nine points behind league leaders Chelsea. The London club has drawn 4 out of their seven league games and are placed 8th on the Premier League table. However, despite a disastrous start to the campaign, Wenger believes that Arsenal can still overcome the massive gap.
“What we want to do is be in front of both of them [Chelsea and City],” Wenger said. “[The gap] is massive – nine points after seven games, I agree completely, but it is not lost.”
Arsenalai??i??s 2-0 defeat to Chelsea was the 12th instance when Wenger failed to defeat a side led by Jose Mourinho, and the Arsenal boss admits that the ai???traumaticai??i?? loss was difficult to take.
“I’ve watched the Chelsea game again and we were guilty of not taking the first chances which were there for us and guilty of making a defensive mistake on their goal but there was very little between the two teams on the day,” he said.
“I think we came out angry and frustrated but also coming that we have an important part to play in this championship. We can only look at ourselves and think if we want to get something out of the big games we cannot afford to make the mistakes we made on the two goals.
“It was traumatic for me. The way we lost was very difficult to take. The quality of the team is to make the maximum with what you produce on the day and that’s where we failed.”
Meanwhile, Wenger has also confirmed that the club intends to bring in a defender in January to provide cover for an injured Laurent Koscielny, the French centre-half is suffering from inflamed Achilles tendons. However, Wenger used the recently concluded AGM to reinstate his faith in the squadai??i??s ability. The Arsenal manager believes the club did well in the summer transfer window.
“I believe we have done remarkably well on the transfer market. I agree we could have bought one more player, (but) we did not find.
“We will try to rectify that, because we are a bit short with the injuries we have (defensively), and overall I think we will rectify that in the transfer market in January.”
