The Chelsea Juggernaut Rolls On; Liverpool Reassert Their Title Ambitions; Arsenal Stumble

Gameweek 28 of theAi??Barclays Premier LeagueAi??saw Chelsea FC extend their lead to four points at the top of the table with Liverpool FC hot on their heels in second position.

Matchday 28 of the Barclays Premier League saw the likes of Chelsea, Liverpool and Tottenham garner maximum points while Arsenal stumbled at their bogey ground against Stoke City. The bottom half of the table is beginning to take shape but it remains to be seen as to who will face the drop from the premiership. It is turning out to be a fascinating season and nothing is certain at the moment, except for the fact that Alan Pardew will be more subdued in the dug-out for the rest of the season.

Another impressive performance by the Blues.

With Manchester City engrossed in their League Cup engagements, it was the perfect opportunity for Chelsea to widen the gap to six points against their rivals from Manchester. They performed the task in clinical fashion, seeing off an unsettled Fulham side 3-1 at Craven

Cottage courtesy a treble from Andre Schurrle. The pre-game talk was pre-dominant about Chelsea being fatigued for this clash after their commitments in Europe at Galatasaray. They showed none of it, especially in the second half with clinical finishing from their German winger.

Eden Hazard was once again put up a scintillating performance and is quickly becoming one of the best players in the modern premier league era. Jose Mourinho once again downplayed Chelsea`s chances of bagging the title through his ai???mind gamesai??i??, but he should take heart from the fact that he has always won the domestic crown when his team has been at the top of the table in the beginning of March.The worrying part about Chelsea`s title assault is the performance of their goal-shy strikers. The Chelsea midfield has always come up with the goods this season, but the performance of their strikers is not top draw. The likes of Torres, Eto`o and Ba will look to buck up and help their team in the remaining games this season.

The Chihuahuas are second.

Brendan Rodgers likened Liverpool to a”chihuahua that runs in between the horses’ legs” when quizzed about Liverpool`s title credentials. He would have been pleased to see his team dispatch an equally impressive Southampton side 3-0, although the score line looked a bit harsh on Southampton in the end. Liverpool continued to impress everyone with their goal scoring prowess with their goal machine in Suarez notching up his 62^nd goal for Liverpool on

his 100^th appearance. He once again showed his opportunistic qualities by being at the right place at the right time when he scored Liverpool`s first goal against the Saints. The Reds, who have 59 points after 28 games, their best ever tally ever since the 1990-1991 season will first look to consolidate their position in the top four, before thinking about the title. Brendan Rodgers will take it game by game, and their next assignment is against Manchester United at Old Trafford on the 16^th of March.

Arsenal`s woes continue at the Brittania.

Ai??The Brittania stadium has not been a happy hunting ground for Arsene Wenger and his men. The gunners showed some resilience but a Jonathan Walters penalty was enough to see Stoke cross the line. The loss at Stoke City should have come as a crushing blow to Arsenal after a strong performance against Sunderland. The poor showing of the gunners may possibly be due to the fatigue which is creeping into them the high intensity games in February. Arsenal, just like Chelsea are struggling with their strike force and the over-reliance on their attacking midfielders to score the goals is proving their undoing at times.

Mesut Ozil, after a great start to the season where he revitalized Arsenal, looks a shadow of his former self. Ramsey has been badly missed and Wenger will look to have him available for selection as soon as possible. Sanogo has been impressive since his debut against Liverpool in the FA Cup but his inexperience showed in the dying moments of the Stoke game where he missed a sitter. It would be foolish to write off Arsenal`s title chances, but it will take a special performance from now till the end of the season should they get there.

Ai??It has been a strange season for Norwich City and their manager Chris Hughton. The former Tottenham man has more often than not been one of the front runners to get sacked this season. Crucial victories in certain games have helped him to stay at Carrow Road but the 4-1 defeat at Villa Park should have surely heaped more pressure on him. The Canaries are in the thick of a relegation battle and another defeat will only compound their woes. It is imperative for Chris Hughton`s men to gain as much points as possible in their next six games before facing Liverpool, Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal in their final four games. Norwich look favorites to go down with their remaining fixtures and it will take a herculean task by Hughton to keep his side`s premiership status.

Ai??Pardew takes the sheen off Newcastle`s impressive win.

Newcastle United have fined manager Alan Pardew A?100,000 and given him a formal warning for headbutting Hull City midfielder David Meyler.Ai?? The incident occurred during a throw-in and in the heat of a moment. The Magpies boss accepted his mistake but it took the gloss of his side`s impressive 4-1 victory at the KC Stadium. Hull`s record at home has been good and they would perhaps rue the missed opportunities that came their way in the first half. Newcastle on the other hand took their chances and were clinical in front of goal.

Spurs and Everton keep their top four hopes alive.

Roberto Soldado turned savior for Tottenham Hotspur through his solitary goal against a struggling Cardiff City at White Hart Lane. The Spaniard would have been pleased to contribute for his team and keep them in the hunt for a top four place. Everton left it late against West Ham at home when Romelu Lukaku, marking his return from injury with a goal, lashed home a winner in the 82^nd minute giving Everton a much deserved 1-0 win. The game between Swansea and Crystal Palace ended in a 1-1 draw, after a controversial penalty from Glenn Murray stopped Swansea from bagging three points.
