Welcome to the review of round 15 of the English Premier League.
Another week of splendid action has passed us by. This week saw Manchester United cut the gap at the top by two points as Manchester City suffered their first defeat in the league this season. United bounced back from their disappointment in Europe with a thumping 4-1 victory against Wolves at Old Trafford. On the other hand, their neighbors failed to do so, as Chelsea got an all important win against a 10-men Manchester City at the Bridge.
Arsenal maintained their momentum in the league, after a hard-fought victory against Everton, with Robin Van Persie scoring from a scintillating volley. Bolton remained rooted to the bottom of the league as they suffered their 12th defeat of the season against Aston Villa. Liverpool jumped to the 6th place in the league table after their 1-0 victory over QPR. At Carrow Road, Newcastle United suffered only their 3rd defeat of the season at the hands of a free-scoring Norwich side. Swansea hosted Fulham at the Liberty stadium and goals from Scott Sinclair and Danny Graham was enough to see off the London side. Roberto Martinez was overjoyed to see his side claim their 3rd victory of the season as Wigan won 2-1 at the Hawthorns. At the Stadium of lights, Blackburn Rovers took the early lead, but Sunderland made a brilliant comeback after two wonder goals from David Vaughan and Sebastian Larsson. Martin Oai??i??Neil has already become a fan favorite after this match. A brace from Etherington ensured Stoke City a deserved victory over Tottenham at the Britannia Stadium.

Game Of The Weekend: Chelsea 2-1 Manchester City
Manchester City came into this match on the back of a 17-match unbeaten run in the English Premier League. After their recent ouster from the Champions League, everyone expected Manciniai??i??s men to provide an apt response. Chelsea had problems of their own though, AndrAi?? Villas-Boas was seemingly under increased pressure to deliver from fans and media alike.
In what turned out to be an intriguing match, City started the strongest with Mario Balotelli scoring in the opening minutes of the game. Chelsea equalized against the run of play through Meireles, after some fantastic play on the wings by Daniel Sturridge. The Blues came out stronger in the 2nd half and soon Manchester City were reduced to 10 men after Clichy received his marching orders. The stage was then set for Frank Lampard, who was dropped for the last two matches, to come and score the winning goal after Lescott handled the ball in the box.
Moment Of The Weekend: Frank Lampard
Towards the end of the second minute of this video, you will see an euphoric Frank Lampard who blasted in the penalty courtesy Joleon Lescott; hence ending Manchester City’s unbeaten run since the start of the season. Chelsea worked hard to get the better of the Citizens all night and Lampard’s reaction says it all!
Player Of The Weekend & Save Of The Weekend: Radek Cerny
The 37-year old Czech goalkeeper was in top form at Anfield on Saturday. He single handedly kept the score line respectable, pulling off save after save from the Liverpool attack. On a night when the QPR defending was sub-standard to say the least, the QPR keeper was the only player worth plaudits. Cerny, who is the third choice keeper at QPR, grabbed a rare opportunity to start and after such a stellar performance might even find a regular first team place.
He made three brilliant saves from Maxi Rodriguez alone and kept out Suarez time and again. Brilliant stuff!
Miss Of The Weekend: Kieran Richardson
Blackburn took the lead at the Stadium of Light around the 16th minute but former Manchester United player Kieran Richardson immediately got a chance to bring his side level. Sessegnon played a lovely place to Richardson in the box, leaving him to just tap the ball from point blank range. However, Richardson spent too much time finding his footing and ended up playing the ball straight to Robinson. Watch the miss of the week from the 44th second of this video.
Goal Of The Weekend: Robin Van Persie
This week has been peppered with some great goals scored throughout the matches. Steven Reidai??i??s powerful free-kick, Sebastian Larssonai??i??s wonderfully placed free-kick, Naniai??i??s dazzling solo effort and David Vaughanai??i??s thunderbolt have lit up this weekend.
Despite such strong contenders, this weekai??i??s award for the best goal goes to the flying Dutchman who has maintained his unbelievable goal-scoring form this year. Robin Van Persieai??i??s left footed volley against Everton is a piece of art.
