Aston Villa will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old German defensive midfielder Noel Aseko from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.
Reputed German journalist Kerry Hau has reported for Sky Deutschland that Bayern Munich talent Noel Aseko is the subject of interest from Aston Villa. The Villans are keen on reinforcing their first-team squad by signing a holding midfielder ahead of the 2026/27 season.
However, Aston Villa will not be alone in the battle for Aseko’s signature, as Brighton & Hove Albion are also keen on signing the youngster. Additionally, AS Roma and Eintracht Frankfurt have made “concrete moves” to secure the Berlin-born midfielder’s services in the upcoming transfer window.
Who is Noel Aseko?
Noel Aseko is the latest promising prospect to rise in prominence in his homeland. Born in Berlin, the youngster spent most of his formative years in his home city, passing through the academies at FC Hertha 03 Zehlendorf and Hertha BSC. However, the 20-year-old graduated from the fabled youth division at Bayern Munich. Meanwhile, the youngster has been on loan with Hannover 96 since February 2025, making significant progress in the last 12 months.
Aseko has impressed with his defensive acumen and tendency to chip in with goal contributions, having amassed three goals and six assists in 29 outings this term. The German midfielder has completed a permanent move to Hannover 96 but will return to Bayern Munich this summer. Meanwhile, his progress has piqued the attention of several well-known clubs, with Aston Villa among the prospective suitors vying for his signature.
Premier League move on the horizon?
Aston Villa’s interest in Noah Aseko is perplexing at first glance, but it makes sense. While Unai Emery has several midfielders in his squad, Boubacar Kamara has struggled with a few long-term injuries during his stint with the West Midlands club. Meanwhile, recent reports have linked Amadou Onana with a move away from Aston Villa, with Manchester United keen on signing him.
Additionally, Ross Barkley’s long-term future is uncertain after entering the final three months of his contract. So, Aston Villa must dip into the market for a versatile midfielder. Several candidates, including Manuel Ugarte, are on the Villans’ wishlist, with Aseko also a viable target.
The 20-year-old German midfielder can become a long-term asset for Aston Villa, considering his age profile and ability to rack up goal contributions as a holding midfielder. However, with several other clubs making their moves to sign Aseko, the Premier League high-flyers must ramp up their efforts to secure his services in the coming months.
