Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City are reportedly in talks to recall teenage midfield sensation Sverre Nypan from EFL Championship club Middlesbrough on Monday.
Sverre Nypan could soon return to his parent club, Manchester City, as they are discussing recalling him from his loan spell at Middlesbrough, according to a report from Sky Sports. The Premier League giants are pleased with his development, and they are all set to integrate him into Pep Guardiola’s first team.
On the back of his impressive rise at Rosenborg, Nypan joined Manchester City last summer. While the teenage sensation is considered a generational talent, Pep Guardiola was not certain about him having regular minutes.
As a result, Manchester City ended up sending him out on loan to Middlesbrough for the 2025/26 season. The Citizens wanted him to adjust well to life in England, and they felt a loan spell at a second division club could help him break into their first team next term.
Sverre Nypan has been involved in 21 matches for Middlesbrough, and his performances have pleased Manchester City. While they are happy with the progress he has made, his minutes have gone down in recent weeks. As a result, the Premier League giants are looking to recall him.
Manchester City set to recall Nypan from Middlesbrough?
Manchester City wanted Sverre Nypan to be ready for the English top flight, and he seems to have showcased the desired level of performance. As a result, Guardiola’s team are in talks to bring him back midway through the 2025/26 season. If the teenage prospect returns, he is not expected to leave on another loan.
The 19-year-old midfielder will go straight into Pep Guardiola’s first team. He will train under the Spanish manager and fight for a place in their starting XI. While the Norwegian wonderkid prefers playing as a number eight, he is equally effective in a variety of roles.
Guardiola might have a stacked midfield, but the teenager has the capability to force his way into the manager’s plans. However, it will be interesting to see if Sverre Nypan is ready to take the Premier League by storm in the case of an immediate return to the club.
