Tottenham are making a ploy to sign Athletic Club midfielder Oihan Sancet next summer as Ange Postecoglou seeks reinforcements.

According to Fichajes, Oihan Sancet emerged as a target for Tottenham for the 2024 summer transfer window. The Athletic Club attacking midfielder has had a decent start to the season so far, as Ange Postecoglou could eye an attacking midfield signing.

Tottenham’s transfer plans for 2024

Ange Postecoglou may have surely identified a few areas of concern in his squad that may need reinforcements next year. While buying a new central defender remains at the top of their agenda for January, other intricate areas may need reinforcements in the summer.

A report a few weeks back stated they wanted an attacking signing to arrive, which could range from a winger or striker to an attacking midfielder. There are few links to some of those positions, with Tottenham being one of the clubs keen on Takefusa Kubo, who can fulfil multiple roles.

Similarly, there are links with Ferran Torres, with Barcelona in a vulnerable financial position to consider offers for a few of their players. Meanwhile, there have been concerns about the attacking midfield role, which James Maddison made it his own after a stunning start to the campaign.

As things stand, Spurs do not have a viable cover for the England international, who has missed games since the start of November and will only return at some stage in January. Hence, there is no surprise about the links with Oihan Sancet.

Is Sancet the right player for Spurs?

Oihan Sancet has had a good enough start to the season, and there are a few clubs setting sights on the Athletic Club star. The 23-year-old midfielder will surely look at some of the clubs showing an interest in signing him ahead of January but will have to be wary of making the right choices.

An earlier report named Arsenal as a potential suitor for the 23-year-old midfielder. But now, Tottenham are eager to enter the race. The details about his price tag or a release clause remain unclear at this stage. But Athletic Club will not let him leave on the cheap.

Then the question remains whether Tottenham are the right choice for Sancet to further his career. He has been good for Athletic Club, but can he sustain those performances and compete for a place with Maddison in the side managed by Postecoglou?
