Odysseas Vlachodimos agrees personal terms in principle with Manchester United

Manchester United and Odysseas Vlachodimos reportedly have an agreement in principle over a possible deal worth €15 million.

According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Odysseas Vlachodimos remains the subject of interest from Manchester United despite the links with Altay Bayindir. And the two parties have an agreement in principle on personal terms. And the Benfica goalkeeper will cost around €15 million.

Odysseas Vlachodimos is a native of Stuttgart and spent most of his formative years with VfB Stuttgart. He made his first-team debut for the German club in August 2015 as a 21-year-old. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old chose to represent Greece on the international stage after turning out for Germany in age-group football.

As for his career at the club level, the Greek international rose to prominence after joining Benfica in May 2018. And he has been a regular for the Portuguese giants in the last half a decade, turning out 225 times while keeping 94 clean sheets. But Vlachodimos is ready to leave Benfica this summer, with Manchester United among his prospective suitors.

The experienced goalkeeper has been on Manchester United’s radar for a long time. But the Red Devils have only seriously pursued him this summer as they scour the market for a shot-stopper. And while Andre Onana has already bolstered the goalkeeping department at Manchester United, they will need a replacement for Dean Henderson.

The English international wants to leave Manchester United this summer to find a stable footing in his career. And recent reports have heavily linked him with Crystal Palace. So it behoves the Premier League heavyweights to dip their toes in the market for a new backup goalkeeper.

Odysseas Vlachodimos has thus emerged as a viable target for Manchester United. Aaccording to Florian Plettenberg, the two parties already have a verbal agreement in principle on personal terms. Meanwhile, the 29-year-old will set Manchester United back by around €15 million.

The price is a bit steep for a backup goalkeeper nearing his 30s. And amid links with Altay Bayindir, signing the Turkish international might be the better option. But it will be interesting to see if Vlachodimos arrives from Benfica instead this summer.
