Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Greek international goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Benfica.

A report from Daily Mail claims that Manchester United have now made an approach to sign Odysseas Vlachodimos this summer. The Red Devils view the 29-year-old goalkeeper as Andre Onana’s deputy. And it remains to be seen whether they can secure an agreement with Benfica.

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the 29-year-old goalkeeper is on top of Manchester United’s wishlist to be the a replacement for Dean Henderson. The 26-year-old is expected to leave the club this summer, with the likes of Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace keen on signing him.

Henderson needs regular game time at this stage of his career, and Manchester United will not be able to provide him with that platform. It will not be a surprise if the English goalkeeper decides to move on before the transfer window closes.

Manchester United will have to replace him adequately. They signed Andre Onana earlier this summer but cannot hope to head into the season with just one reliable goalkeeper at their disposal. Vlachodimos could prove to be a quality backup option for the former Inter Milan goalkeeper.

The 29-year-old is a proven performer with Benfica, and he has the experience and quality to succeed in the Premier League as well. He will look to push Onana for the starting spot this season.

The former Inter Milan goalkeeper has been a solid performer since joining Manchester United. But it will be interesting to see if Vlachodimos can displace him from the starting lineup if he moves to Old Trafford.

The 29-year-old is at the peak of his powers. And the opportunity to join one of the biggest clubs in the world will be hard to turn down. He will look to embark on a new journey, and the opportunity to move to Manchester United will be an exciting one.

Onana will need to continue performing consistently if he wants to play regularly for the Red Devils. He looked vulnerable in a few pre-season games, and Vlachodimos will certainly fancy his chances against the Cameroon international. Meanwhile, Manchester United were also interested in Zion Suzuki. But the Japanese international has snubbed the Red Devils this summer.
