Zion Suzuki prefers move to Sint-Truiden over Manchester United

Manchester United have been linked with a move for the Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki but have faced a blow in his pursuit.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Zion Suzuki remains a target for Manchester United. But the 20-year-old goalkeeper prefers a move to the Belgian club Sint-Truiden instead.

Suzuki has been mentioned as a target for Manchester United for weeks. So the Red Devils will be disappointed to have missed out on him. The Premier League outfit need to sign a quality backup goalkeeper this summer, especially if Dean Henderson leaves the club.

The English international has been linked with a move to Nottingham Forest. The 26-year-old has struggled with the lack of regular football at Old Trafford, and he could look to move on in search of playing time.

Romano has claimed that Suzuki does not want to be a backup option at Manchester United. So he prefers a switch to the Belgian club. He is likely to get ample playing opportunities at Sint-Truiden, which will benefit his development. The 20-year-old will be hoping to establish himself as a regular starter for club and country in the coming seasons.

Meanwhile, Manchester United have signed Andre Onana as their first-choice goalkeeper, and they will not be able to afford enough game time to the Japanese goalkeeper. It makes sense for the highly-rated shot-stopper to join another club this summer.

Suzuki will have plenty of opportunities to join a big club in the coming seasons if he manages to fulfil his potential in the coming seasons. As for Manchester United, it will be interesting to see if they decide to move for another goalkeeper this summer.

They cannot head into the new season with just one reliable goalkeeper in the first-team squad. So they must look to bring in an understudy to Onana. Suzuki is currently in advanced negotiations to join Sint-Truiden, and it remains to be seen whether the two clubs can secure an agreement soon.
