Barcelona closely monitoring Matias Segovia

Barcelona will reportedly look to sign 20-year-old Paraguayan winger Matias Segovia from Brazilian club Botafogo this summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Mundo Deportivo, Matias Segovia is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants are closely monitoring the progress of the 20-year-old South American winger. And they have been tracking him for nearly half a decade, first setting their sights on him during the Under-17 World Cup in 2019.

Matias Segovia is one of the best young prospects in South America. The Paraguayan winger spent his formative years in his homeland before graduating from the Guarani youth division. And his stock has risen considerably since joining Brazilian club Botafogo a few months ago.

The 20-year-old has turned out 15 times thus far for Botafogo de Futbol e Regatas, providing two assists. And the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with several high-profile clubs setting their sights on him. Barcelona will be one of his prospective suitors in the coming months.

Matias Segovia, also known as Segovinha and Mati, has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. The Catalan giants first set their sights on him during the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2019, held in Brazil. Since then, they have closely monitored his progress at Guarani and Botafogo.

It looks like Barcelona might soon launch the offensive to sign the 20-year-old South American winger. The news comes in the wake of Ousmane Dembele’s relentless links with Paris Saint-Germain. And with the French international on the verge of moving to Parc des Princes, Barcelona will need a replacement.

Several attackers, including Bradley Barcola, have since emerged on Barcelona’s radar. And Matias Segovia might be a candidate to bolster Barcelona’s offensive unit. But the Paraguayan winger might not be ready to represent the Catalan club’s first team yet, considering he has a diminutive and frail frame.

Nonetheless, the 20-year-old South American winger remains on Barcelona’s wishlist. And it will be interesting to see if they will make a move to sign Segovinha from Botafogo in the ongoing transfer window, mere months after his transfer to Brazil.
