Newcastle United are looking to sign Portuguese midfielder Ruben Neves on loan from Saudi Pro League club Al Hilal.

According to a report by Football Insider, Newcastle United want to sign Ruben Neves. The 26-year-old midfielder is on the radar of the Magpies, who are looking to further strengthen their squad ahead of next season.

Newcastle United were exceptional in the 2022/23 season, as they managed to qualify for next season’s Champions League. With the Magpies making it to Europe’s biggest club tournament, it was pretty certain that they would push to sign world-class players in the summer.

Eddie Howe might have done wonders over the past few seasons. But he has identified key areas that still need strengthening. The Newcastle United manager believes they need to sign a couple of world-class midfielders who can support Bruno Guimarães in the centre of the park.

The Englishman is a big admirer of Neves and believes signing him will help them be competitive in the league as well as the UCL. And the Portuguese international has been on Newcastle United’s radar for a long time.

Neves’s contract at Wolves might run until the summer of 2024. But he has decided to part ways with the club. The 26-year-old is all set to join Al Hilal. He is close to completing a move to the Saudi Pro League for a fee of around £47 million.

The Portuguese international has agreed personal terms with Al Hilal. And an official announcement regarding his signing should follow in the coming days. With Neves joining Al Hilal, the chances of him joining Newcastle United have increased.

The Magpies are looking to sign him on a two-year-long loan from the Suadi club. And the fact that the two teams have the same ownership will help their cause. Public Investment Fund (PIF) recently took control of four Saudi clubs (Al-Ittihad, Al Ahli, Al Nassr and Al Hilal).

They own majority stakes in all four of the clubs and also have an 80 per cent stake in Newcastle that they acquired back in October 2021. With Neves all set to be the newest star to join a Saudi club, there are chances that the common ownership could result in a loan move that will see him return to the English top flight.
