Newcastle United edge closer to reaching Bruno Guimaraes agreement

Newcastle United are set to strike a new record deal with 25-year-old midfielder Bruno Guimaraes as they look to extend his contract.

According to a report by Football Insider, Newcastle United are set to pen down a new deal with Bruno Guimaraes ahead of next season. The Magpies are in no mood to let him leave the club and are ready to pay him record wages to stay at the club for an extended period of time.

Bruno Guimaraes joined Newcastle back in the winter of 2022 in a deal worth £40 million. He was their first marquee signing post the Saudi Arabia-backed takeover. The 25-year-old has been the mainstay of the team since joining them. And, he has been integral to their success in the ongoing season.

The Brazilian international has made a total of 52 appearances for the Magpies. He also has nine goals and six assists to his name. As far as the ongoing season is concerned, Guimaraes has nine goal contributions in his 35 outings.

The Magpies are all set to feature in next season’s UEFA Champions League. They are currently third in the league and have a two-point advantage over fourth-placed Manchester United. And, Newcastle are three points ahead of 5th-placed Liverpool with two games in hand.

Meanwhile, Newcastle United have already started planning for next season. Their priority is to bring in another world-class midfielder in the summer, with Khephren Thuram one of their targets. However, their first focus is to give Bruno Guimaraes a new contract. They are well aware of the interest from across Europe and do not want to risk losing the 25-year-old at any cost.

While his existing contract runs until the summer of 2026, the Magpies are willing to increase his contract length as well as his wages. They are willing to make him the highest-paid player in their history. The Brazilian international is currently paid around £120,000 per week and is the joint highest alongside Alexander Isak.

The 25-year-old is set to receive a significant pay hike on the back of impressive performances that have also ensured them Champions League football for next season. The £40 million signing is expected to put pen to paper soon and the official confirmation should follow in the following weeks.
