Chelsea and Tottenham are reportedly eyeing up a move for 18-year-old Brighton & Hove Albion striker Evan Ferguson.

According to a report from The Sun, Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur are interested in signing18-year-old striker Evan Ferguson, who has impressed at fellow Premier League club Brighton & Hove Albion this season.

It is no secret that Chelsea need to bring in attacking reinforcements, and they will have to invest in a reliable goal scorer at the end of the season. The Blues have found it difficult to find the back of the net consistently this season.

They have managed to improve the creativity in their side over the last couple of windows. But they need to bring in a reliable goalscorer now. So it is hardly surprising that Chelsea have shown interest in several strikers, including Dusan Vlahovic. And Evan Ferguson has also emerged as a viable target.

Ferguson has been in impressive form for Brighton, and he could prove to be a quality long-term acquisition for Chelsea. The Republic of Ireland international is the youngest player from his country to score in the Premier League, and he has the attributes to develop into a top-class player. Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur need to add more depth through their attack as well.

The north Londoners believe that Ferguson could be the ideal long-term replacement for club legend Harry Kane. The 29-year-old England international has been linked with a move away from Tottenham at the end of the season. And it remains to be seen whether Daniel Levy decides to move for the Brighton youngster as his replacement.

The opportunity to join clubs like Chelsea and Tottenham will be an attractive proposition for the 18-year-old and it would be a major step up in his career as well. However, he will need game-time assurances to ensure that its development does not halt due to the lack of game time.

The 18-year-old needs to play regularly to continue his development and cannot afford to sit on the bench at a top club. It remains to be seen how the situation unfolds over the next few months. Meanwhile, Brighton have shown that they are not easy to negotiate with. So the two Premier League clubs will likely have to shell out a premium if they want to sign the 18-year-old from the Seagulls.
