Chelsea preparing an offer of €74 million for Moises Caicedo

Chelsea are reportedly prepared to make a €74 million offer for top midfield target Moises Caicedo, with Brighton’s stance still unclear.

According to Spanish outlet AS, Chelsea are not giving up on pursuing Moises Caicedo. The London side are reportedly prepared to pay €74 million for the Ecuadorian midfielder. Brighton’s stance on allowing this transfer remains in doubt.

Chelsea will likely have a busy ending to this transfer window as they seek further reinforcements to strengthen the squad. Having already made a series of signings this month, Todd Boehly is intent on fool proofing every department.

They brought in Mykhaylo Mudryk for €100 million from Shakhtar Donetsk before following that up by snapping Noni Madueke from PSV Eindhoven. Chelsea had already signed David Fofana from Molde and reinforced the backline with Benoit Badiashile. They have already spent over €175 million this month, and the outlay might continue.

Chelsea also want a new right-back and could inch closer to signing Malo Gusto from Lyon. Their primary target is a new midfielder, having already failed with a mega move for Enzo Fernandez earlier in the window. Moises Caicedo remains their primary target. There are difficulties in signing the Liverpool and Manchester United target.

Liverpool and Manchester United have held an interest in the midfielder. Both sides need to strengthen the middle areas. But the lack of funds could push their objectives with the Ecuadorian until the summer window.

The lack of action from Manchester United or Liverpool for Caicedo gives Chelsea a head start. The Blues have already seen an offer get rejected by Brighton for the midfielder. For starters, the Seagulls have no interest in selling one of their important players. Secondly, they reportedly want close to €90 million to sell him.

Chelsea are ready to hike the offer and possibly go up to €74 million, per the report. That is a lot of money for a player who arrived for about €4.5 million. The Seagulls could reportedly become tempted by the latest proposal. However, they are widely known for their hard bargaining skills.

With Caicedo reportedly keen on the move, the situation could draw similarities with Chelsea’s move for Marc Cucurella. The Blues eventually paid what Brighton demanded, which may be the case this time around for the Ecuadorian.

Brighton have never caved under pressure from big clubs and could remain firm on their asking price. They will not care for what the player wants, although Chelsea should conduct business with the Seagulls at the right price.
