Unai Emery wants Nacho Fernandez to reinforce the Aston Villa defence and hopes to get him on a cut price move in January.

According to Fichajes, Nacho Fernandez is an option for Aston Villa as Unai Emery seeks defensive reinforcements in January. The 32-year-old Real Madrid star is down the pecking order and might remain open to listening to offers from the Midland side.

Aston Villa’s season took a turn with the appointment of Unai Emery, and it looks like a positive side. There has been a change in the atmosphere since his arrival, and the team have results to show for it. There is a need to continue this good run with a dip in the transfer market.

Emery has changed the style by identifying what each player can do best in a system. The attacking side has shown plenty of goals, and the midfield is beginning to gel together. Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa have stuck well, but Villa needs a new centre-back.

Diego Carlos would have made this defence stronger, but the Brazilian’s early season injury halted his season. There are also numbers and depth in quality to be assessed; Emery feels a new centre-back could add a bit of security.

Pau Torres was an early name linked, but the Spaniard will likely want a Champions League side. He could have several options in Tottenham or Manchester United, which may dwarf Villa’s interest. Emery was also considering Caglar Soyuncu from Leicester, and there could be other targets.

Nacho Fernandez is the latest in the stories, as the 32-year-old is having a quiet season. Antonio Rudiger’s arrival and the long pecking order behind him have rendered only one full ninety for the centre-back. Yet, he would want to understand what role he has under Carlo Ancelotti for the season.

Nacho could prove a solid backup player at Madrid, and hence they might consider him crucial. However, a good offer from Villa could let the La Liga giants read the circumstances better and line up a replacement. Josko Gvadriol is a reported target, and if they can manage the Croatian, Nacho could depart.

Villa will hope to get Nacho on a marginal deal, and the 32-year-old defender could be a good fit under Emery. This is a transfer the club might aim at, but much will depend on Nacho’s preference.
