Leeds United have reportedly reached a full agreement to sign Celtic teenager Rory Mahady, who was also a target for Manchester City.

According to Football Insider, Leeds United have agreed a deal to secure the signing of 16-year-old Celtic goalkeeper Rory Mahady, beating Manchester City in the race for the teenage prospect.

Mahady is a product of the Celtic academy and is tipped for a bright future due to the vast potential he has shown so far in his youth career. The goalkeeper, who turned 16 last Tuesday, played the previous season for the Hoops’ Under-17 side and has managed to attract a lot of admirers due to his performances for the club’s youth team as well as the Scotland Under-17 national team.

Mahady had been offered his first professional contract by Celtic but he turned it down in favour of a move down south to England from Scotland. The teenager had been attracting a lot of interest, with Manchester City, Leeds United and even Tottenham vying for his signing this summer.

However, as per the report, Leeds United have come out on top in the race to sign the Scottish prodigy. The Whites had an agreement in place with the 16-year-old Mahady over personal terms and have now agreed a deal with Celtic as well to take him from Glasgow to Yorkshire in the coming days.

Leeds United have been bolstering their youth ranks and have invested in talents such as Amari Miller, Lewis Bate, Joe Gelhardt, Sean McGurk and Leo Hjelde over the past year, with the latter arriving from Celtic. This summer, the Whites have landed Sonny Perkins on a free transfer after his contract with West Ham United expired.

Leeds have recently tabled an offer worth around £3 million to sign George Hall from Birmingham City and are now set to sign Rory Mahady from Celtic.

Celtic had been reluctant to let Mahady leave, but with the youngster rejecting their contact proposal, they have agreed a deal with Leeds to part ways with the teenager. The 16-year-old goalkeeper will be signing an initial scholarship deal with Jesse Marsch’s side which will turn into a professional contract when he turns 17 next year.
